AlpsMan 極限鐵人賽的實戰驗證

Partington 不只是訓練工具,它也是實戰夥伴。2025 年 AlpsMan 比賽當天,氣溫低、暴雨不斷,自行車賽段條件幾近惡劣,地面濕滑、陡坡多彎,幾乎每一段路都在考驗技術與裝備的極限。

On the day of the 2025 AlpsMan race, the conditions were brutal: low temperatures, relentless rain, and a bike course that pushed both rider and gear to the limit. Slick roads, steep climbs, and tight corners meant every stretch was a test of skill and equipment.

Although the race was cut short due to an unexpected incident, by the time it ended, I had climbed from the back of the pack to fifth overall.
My estimated bike segment time was the third fastest of the entire field — even among professional athletes.

賽後無心的測試:安錫湖的 MTB 試煉

賽後兩天,與團隊成員在法國安錫湖周邊進行休閒環湖騎乘,卻在 Google Maps 的導航「引導」下誤入一段碎石路段,實際屬於 MTB 或推車專用路線。

出乎意料的是,Partington 這對以「碳纖一體化結構」著稱的輪組,在這種不在預期之內的越野路段中竟表現出色。

Two days after the race, our team went on a casual ride around Lake Annecy in France.

Guided by Google Maps, we unexpectedly ended up on a gravel path — a route more suited for mountain bikes or walking.

Surprisingly, the Partington wheelset, known for its one-piece carbon construction, performed remarkably well on this unplanned off-road segment.

When evaluating a wheelset’s ride quality, stiffness and weight on paper are never the whole story.

In reality, many high-stiffness wheelsets can feel sluggish under power, making each pedal stroke feel like a struggle.

On the other end of the spectrum, ultra-light wheelsets often give the impression of under-inflated tires, lacking support and responsiveness.

The result is the same: on long, steep climbs or unstable surfaces, your pedaling force seems to disappear into the road — with no rhythm, no feedback.

I was one of the few Asian riders ever sponsored directly by Lightweight and had the opportunity to ride several generations of their tubular wheelsets.

The ride experience was uncompromisingly direct incredibly stiff, with instant power transfer.

Its performance during short, explosive climbs and high-speed accelerations was nothing short of unforgettable.

騎乘感受方面,受外胎的影響也非常顯著。若未來有機會試乘 Lightweight 最新的 tubeless 輪組,使用同樣的外胎設定,將能更客觀全面地進行比較與分析。

This difference likely stems in part from structural factors, such as spoke and hub design, as well as rim width.

The Lightweight wheelsets I rode were older-generation tubular models, and I haven't yet tested the newer, wider rim tubeless versions.

Ride feel is also heavily influenced by tire choice.

If I have the opportunity to test the latest Lightweight tubeless models in the future — using the same tire setup — it would allow for a more objective and comprehensive comparison.

From the steep slopes of Alpe d’Huez, to the cold and wet technical segments of AlpsMan, and even an accidental off-road detour around Lake Annecy,

It may not be the stiffest, nor the lightest, but it strikes a rare balance that allows the rider to keep pushing forward and perform consistently in all conditions.
